Fire Safety (Buildings) Ordinance (Cap. 572)

Applies to buildings constructed or for which

building plans were first submitted before

March 1, 1987.

Authorizes the Fire Services Department (FSD)

and the Buildings Department (BD) to issue

"Fire Safety Improvement Directions" to

building owners, requiring the upgrade

of fire service installations to current standards.

Covers: Means of escape, fire alarm systems,

fire hydrant/hose reel systems, emergency

lighting, fire-resisting doors, etc.

Fire Safety Regulation (Cap. 636)

Specifically regulates fire safety requirements

for commercial premises

(e.g., shops, restaurants, offices, hotels, etc.).

Emphasizes fire risk assessment, evacuation

arrangements, and fire equipment provision

for commercial spaces.

Works in conjunction with Cap. 572.

Commercial premises located in older

buildings may be subject to both regulations.
